How the Adventure Came to Be
Helps to Steal an Idea
So, I got this idea to venture into the world of doll-making from a post on a friend's Facebook post about a doll that she gave to her granddaughter that was wearing clothes made from something she carried on her wedding day. That made me think that I would love to be able to do something like that for Hunter from something that belonged to my mom. I didn't immediately remember that I had the blue linen suit that she wore to get married in. Then I wondered if I could even find it.![]() |

I first thought that I would make a small, soft stuffed doll that she could really play with. When I started investigating online, I found that Hobby Lobby had a body that I could order for about $9--what a deal!

I then sought advice from Connie Fletcher whose mom was a professional doll maker in hopes that Connie had inherited some of that ability. Sadly, she says she did not. She did offer some suggestions about hair and facial features that I'll eventually need. We also looked at possible patterns, and sent me links to some of the ones we found:

I also contacted Sue Hamner who I thought might have experience in the area. She did not but said Connie Torres did so she's my next go-to.
Today, I ordered the doll, with a 40% off coupon! and found the suit.
Next order of business is going to be washing this linen suit that has not been laundered in 69 years--if ever. I'll need to tread softly! An Internet search for dealing with vintage linen gave me some clues as to what to do. I think I'll try hand washing in Woolite in cold water and fabric softener, rinse well and hang to dry.
